Who is responsible
The service operator, trading as Competition Companion, is the controller responsible for personal information used by this website. Privacy questions and requests can be sent to [email protected].
Information we use
We store your name, email address, account-security records and the choices you make in the service. Those choices can include entered, saved, skipped or ignored competitions, private notes, preferences, saved searches, viewed items, reports, support conversations, submissions, win records, notifications and approximate device/browser session labels.
Passwords are stored as secure hashes. Passkey public credentials and MFA settings are security records; we never receive the private key held by your device.
Information we deliberately do not collect
We do not collect mailbox passwords, Gmail messages, CAPTCHA answers, payment details, promoter-form contents or completed competition entries. Contact details saved in the optional browser helper stay on that device. We do not record your IP address in member session records.
Why we use it and our legal bases
We process account, security and private competition records because they are needed to provide the service you ask us to provide and administer our agreement with you. We rely on our legitimate interests to secure the service, prevent misuse, investigate faults, operate the catalogue and respond to support or issue reports, after considering the effect on members.
Optional daily and weekly summaries are sent only with your consent. Both switches are off by default, can be changed at any time in Preferences and each summary includes an unsubscribe link. We use information where necessary to meet a legal obligation or establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
Service providers and international transfers
We use carefully limited providers for server hosting, transactional and requested account email, and private administrator alerts. Factual AI assistance is used only when the feature is enabled and a member explicitly requests it. Providers receive only the information necessary for that task and must not use it for their own advertising. Source-site credentials and collection sessions are isolated from member accounts.
Some providers may process information outside the UK. Where this is a restricted transfer, we use an applicable UK adequacy regulation or approved contractual safeguards and limit the information transferred. Contact us if you would like more information about the safeguard used for a particular provider.
Cookies
The website uses essential cookies for sign-in, security and your session. It does not use advertising cookies. Browser preferences such as theme or helper settings are used only to provide the chosen feature.
How long we keep information
Your account and member-owned records are kept while the account is active. Reviewed issue reports are removed after 365 days, helper compatibility reports after 180 days and AI allowance counters after 90 days. Security and fault logs are kept only for the limited period needed to protect and diagnose the service. Shared factual catalogue answers contain no member identity and are removed after they stop being useful under the catalogue-retention schedule.
Account deletion removes the live Identity account and member-owned product records. A residual encrypted copy can remain temporarily in a protected rolling backup until that backup expires. We retain only information that must remain for security, legal claims or a legal obligation, and restrict its use to that purpose.
Your data-protection rights
Depending on the processing and legal basis, you may ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of your personal information. You can withdraw digest consent at any time without affecting earlier lawful processing.
You have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests. Tell us what you object to and why; we will stop unless we can demonstrate a compelling lawful reason to continue or need the information for a legal claim.
Many controls are available directly from Account, including export, session revocation and deletion. You can also email us. If you remain unhappy, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
Automated processing
Automated rules help classify, deduplicate and order competitions. They do not make decisions about you that produce legal or similarly significant effects. You can reverse personal preference filters and report catalogue errors.
Other websites
Competition entries are completed on promoter websites. Their privacy notices and terms apply when you visit them. We send promoter links without a Competition Companion referrer and never proxy your form submission.
